The small rose |

The body Use rose ruby color, before starting to paint, draw a cercle of about 10 to 12 mm diameter with a graphite pencil used especialy to draw on china (as it does not leave any marks on china once it is firing). Within this circle paint, as for a corn flower petal: light pressure on brush to start, diminish the pressure while giving a circulare movement to follow the circonference of the circle. Continue the same movement, except that the curve will increase as shown on the sketch on the left. The sketch represents only three brush strokes, however six or seven will be needed, each one partially covering the previous one for the real rose. The brush should be loaded with paint only once at the beginning and a blank area must be left at the top of the body for the heart. |
The heart (part 1): Tthe heart could partially cover the area you just did. Inside that circle, with the same movement, paint the equivalent of a first cornflower petal. |
Continue the same movement to paint an other petal (of a cornflower) on the left of the heart and two on the right. The accumulation of paint on the right side makes it darker. |
Start with the right petal which is along the rose body. With your brush loaded with paint, do the same classical movement used to paint a corn-flower petal but curved in order to follow the circumference of the rose body. Load your brush and continue as indicated in the sketch: 3 petals on the right and 2 on the left. |
The leaves: It will help you to first draw the shape of each leaf. Load your brush with soft green paint mixed with a dot of graphite black. Then without loading your brush again paint half a leaf with a series of strokes, each one partially covering the previous one. |
The rose bud: The heart of the rose bud: It is painted in two strokes that merge at the top. |
The bud enveloppe (part 1): You can paint the front part of the bud enveloppe, in two brush strokes. Pull the brush downwards, gradually increasing the pressure at the center and decreasing it toward the end. |
The bud enveloppe (part 2): It is like a long petal that starts at the base of the bud and goes up in a S shape ( inverse S on the left ) to finally stop well above the heart of the bud. Three little commas end the top of the bud. One of the enveloppe side should be longer than the other. |
The calyx : You will paint it in one brush stroke: Pull the brush sideways increasing the pressure toward the center and decreasing it toward the end. It is shorter than the one of a corn-flower. |
A rose is very often painted along with buds |
